Yes it happened to this weblog. My email and comment posts were clogged up with spam and messages were sent to my email contacts through a thread from this blog to me. Everything is repaired now. Once I am sure we are functioning properly I will resume posting. Thank you to those who have stuck with this. Most likely I am going to a static website for Tom Bivins Pottery.

We are finally finished moving to our new home.

Raku Crackle Effects

I discovered this YouTube video demonstrating the crackle Raku post firing technique. This gentleman seems to have it down perfectly. In this video the pottery is removed from the kiln and allowed to evenly cool prior to reducing in a trash can. The clay is shrinking faster than the glaze/glass on the surface. This cooling action causes the uniformed “crackle” patterns which are then blackened by the smoking fire. Click on the image and enjoy!

View of the Grand Teton From Home

The Bivins clan is moving today to a new home a couple of miles away in Driggs, Idaho. My whole family is excited none more then yours truly. I have a couple of kilns ready to put into action and the pottery making will be underway. The photo in this post is representative of the views from the front of the home. My favorite ski resort, Grand Targhee is the predominant sight.
